I have a boxed set of Rev 9 chips which I've never installed. The
instructions that come with this kit refer to it as the "Polaris
Revision 9 EPROM Upgrade". The instruction sheet itself seems to have
a Fender part number of 309006601. The actual EPROMS are referred to
as being P/N 306802201. I have no idea if you can still track down
these parts through Fender.
I have no idea what differences there are between rev 5 and rev 9. I
can tell you that the only meaningful difference between the last two
revisions issued by Fender, was in the velocity repsonse curve of the
key action. One revision was programmed for a lighter touch, and the
other was probably more suited to people who were used to banging on a
piano, and liked the less sensitive key response curve. I think the
very last version was the less-sensitive ("less mushy" some pianists
called it) version.
I believe that rev 9 is that very last version, with the more
aggressive key response curve. I doubt there was a revision after rev
9, but almost anything is possible. ;)
take care,
