Thought this may be of interest to those of you attending TapeOp Magazine's
TapeOpCon 2006 Conference (June 16-18) in Tuscon. This panel forum will be
held on Sunday, June 18 from 11:30AM to 1PM
"Analog Rebirth" - true tales of the modular synth revival with Steve Roach,
Peter Grenader and Dave Wright, moderated by Roger King.
 from Steve Roach:
While the use of the true analog modular synths never left the studio since
their inception, the revolt against faux soft synths and knobless single
serving - slider instruments was partly responsible for creating a
compelling backlash. Now the re-appreciation of pure analog sound quality
combined with the nuance of control and opened ended choices has inspired a
renaissance of new maverick modular builders and artists embracing this
 analog rebirth world wide.
The panel, hosted by electronic-ambient veterans Steve Roach, Peter Grenader
and Dave Wright of Not Breathing will discuss the joy of hands-on analog
sound creation, as well as processing and filtering of non-electronic
instruments in live and studio applications. The panel will start with a
brief perspective from each artist, some Q and A and then the fun begins
with a hands-on session modular systems including Peters Grenader's new Plan
B and the Livewire series of Eurorack format modules from Electro-Acoustic
Research, Dave Wright's custom modular wall and a few secret agent style
traveling suitcase versions configured by Steve Roach.
