Hey doods.
So a while back I was enquiring as to how to hook up a basic morse
code key to a Doepfer A-100 in order to act as an on/off switch for
the signals passing through my synths. I got it all working
wonderfully and have implemented it into my live shows easily. It
sounds great, and is really fun to use, but I think I need more of
this stuff onstage....
I now have been bidding on more keys in hopes of having four of them
mounted to a little box (think of a morsecode/mpc pad style hybrid
for synthy fun)... with 2 keys for actual on/off switches (for
transformer/dj style synth sweeps and whatnot) and another 2 keys
running a +5 CV to ADSRs (for triggering synth shots or any other
number of filter possiblities). Ideally if I was going to build
something it could power all 4 at once if I wanted to.
Do I need to actually print a circuit here or would it be as simple
as picking up a Doepfer powersupply
Alternately, perhaps a 9V battery and wiring in some resistors to the
path Ideally I would like to have something capable of powering 4 of
these keys at once, and to make it durable enough not to worry about
it on tour, but not too huge either. I am thinking of building a
little hardcase which would contain all the morse code keys, the
powersupply, along with my little mackie submixer and my moog
pedals / control processor.
This setup would interface with my MPC4000 and 3 Doepfer A100s as my
live touring setup.
Anyone done anything like this
Any feedback or insight would be appreciated.
Also, since we are on the topic of touring rigs. Some things that
would be amazing for a touring guy using Doepfers:
*An alternate/replacement design on the Theremin antenna We are
continually breaking them on the road and having to re-saughter them
minutes before performing, a huge stress at times. It would be great
to do away with the swivel on it and to just have a nice thick rod
straight into the jack. If this doesn't happen, I might just get some
of those nice thick rods from Big Briar's Theremin kits and mount
them to my A-100 frames, because this is really becoming a pain. I
find the rest of the system to work wonderfully as a touring rig, but
this part of this module just can't stand up to tour.
*Might it be possible for some always-touring guys to get some custom
larger powered racks made available to them I have enough modules to
fill 3 A-100s, and I am trying to get as few cases as possible
together as to not get murdered on overage charges while taking the
flights. The larger cases (like this one
http://www.doepfer.de/
b_a100blue.gif) look perfect for my needs here, and it would be
amazing if a short run were produced (especially if they had two
industrial travel wheels at the bottom back side, a nice handle at
the top, and were tall enough to do 3 full A-100 suitcases). I know 2
people in this studio alone that would use these on tour.
*It would also be amazing if there was a real mixer module for the
Doepfer system. I know a lot of people on here would love to see a
nice EQ module in a expandable mixer configuration. Even the pro
audio guys recognize this need for a modular mixer for synth and home
setups (look at all the new API, Chandler, Wunder, Neve lines). It
would be great if Doepfer could license a good sounding summing amp
(Burr Browns ) and build a nice small modular mixer that would be
suitable for live and studio use. People are sick of lugging around
Mackies for this purpose, and they surely don't like the sound of
them. I am sure that a company like Speck (who make good sounding and
affordable EQs) could license out their circuit and that it could be
adopted to be a cost effective solution to carrying a professional
mixer module with full features in the Doepfer rack).
Anyways, I could dream all day about what I want my live setup to be
like. The main thing is that I want the power of this system in a
really durable form. It is the main reason why I chose Doepfer over
AS and everything else. It would be cool to see if any of this stuff
might come to light. If not, cool. If so, amazing!
