If nothing is connected to In 1 the pot will simply add V to the
output of the mixer. The V range goes from 0V (fully ccw) up to 5 V
(fully cw).
E.g. your CV for a VCA is an LFO since it's range goes from -2,5 to
+2,5 you will only hear the audio signal if the CV is above 0 V;
when it equals 0 V or goes below the VCA will be silent.
Same patch but the LFO goes into In 2 of an A138 before it feeds the
VCA. Now you can add some positive Vs with the pot In 1 which acts a
Voltage source (same as A176) if there's no connection to it's
corresponding jack. This allows you to off set the negative V of the
LFO for a varying audio output so that the VCA never mutes the
signal but varies it's amplitude.

the first input does that mean I can effectively control the output
so it can't go over 5v or under 0v somehow my brain and the
description in the pdf are not connecting.
