I have an A101-2 in my portable set. This is very useful because it
can be used as a (pretty damn extreme) LPF and a VCA..(and of course
the inbetween lopass gate function) which is saving some space in the
suitcase.

I must admit that optimizing the portable set to my needs is an ongoing process.
I have the luck of owning quite some racks of Doepfer so I can test
stuff out and exchange it back into the big system if it ain't worth
using it live..
