The 100mA spec of the A-100 miniature power supply is very precautious and
has primarily to with the max. temperature of the voltage regulators.
Actually the voltage regulators (standard 7812/7912 types) can be used up to
1000mA provided that the temperature does not exceed 70 degrees Celsius. For
this heat sinks have to be used to keep the temperature below this value.
Even the environment has an influence as the air flow around the heat sinks
affects the temperature (e.g. in a small enclosure the heat sinks will heat
up more than in a large enclosure).
At the moment we are about to find out if the miniature power supply is
sufficient for a typical combination of modules in the "beauty case" with
max. 200 mA. As mentioned it's not an electrical but a temperature problem.
We will run a typical combination of modules (incl. 2xA-110 with 70mA each)
for several days and measure the temperature of the heat sinks inside the
"beauty case" now and then. In the worst case we will simply have to use
larger heat sinks to obtain the 200 mA.
Normally the 4 bus connectors of the miniature power supply will be
sufficient for modules mounted to the "beauty case". If actually more than 4
modules have to be installed there is a simple solution: a "double bus
cable" with one bus connector and two module connectors. In this way two
modules can be connected to one bus connector only.
I hope the beauty cases will be available soon. Our case manufacturer is
very busy at the moment. This is why the cases are not yet available (we
expected to have them available end of January).
Best wishes
