just my opinion-
i've tried the moog voyager, and the touch pad is fantastic.
as a current doepfer ribbon controller user, though, i must say that
these are really really great. the length allows a very detailed,
particular response. a small touch pad would not have the detail, for
sure. i think it is much more personal than anything possible with a
joystick, theremin controller or foot controller. i have made many
patches that sound to my ears a lot like lyrical screeches and howls
of an avant garde sax player ala evan parker or albert ayler.
i could not dispense with the ribbon controller after having one for a
year or so.
