As first the bread and butter modules:
get a A-143-3 and a A-143-2 instead of A-145 and A-140 (you will never
have enough sources for modulations... ;-))
Get at least two mixers; better more. If you buy only two, then take
lineare mixers. Exp-mixers a not really usable for mixing CVs, but
linear are ok for Audio (though not perfect).
Get a VC-Slewlimiter.
Get enough multiples and bus access modules.
Get a triggermodifier (A-165)
Get a voltage inverter (A-175)
If you want to work with MIDI and do not yet have a MIDI/CV-Interface
get an A-190 (or similar).
For standard synthesis:
Get a Standard VCO (A-110) and a (so called) HighEnd VCO (A-111).
Regarding VCOs: The 110 is the Moogsound, the 111 is the
Prophet/Oberheimsound.
Get a A-118 Noise/Random. (A-117 is a nice to have but not a must).
For external Signals:
Get a A-119 for external signals.
Get an external compressor for pre processing the external signal (e.g
Alesis 3630 or similar); if it has seperate controls input levels and
output levels it may be suitable also as direct input "module" for
stereo signals.
For both types of usage:
As low pass filter get either a A-120 (Moog) or a A-105 (Prophet or some
Korg). I meanwhile prefer the A-105, though the A-120 sounds very
"classic", but the A-105 boosts better.
Get a weird multimode filter like A-106, A-101-1; A-121 is not that
rocking, but nevertheless a solid worktool. Perhaps also A-108, but this
lacks the highpass.
For VCAs: get one A-131 (required for amplitude modulations by linear
sources like LFOs or other VCOs). Get a lot of linear VCAs (for envelope
modulations); at least one A-130 and one A-132-1 (NOT A-132-2! It is not
four separated VCAs).
Get an A-137. I think most people on the list agree, that this is a
wonderful module to change sounds in a most unexpected way. It is
perfectly suitable for external sounds
Get at least one, better two from the A-188 range. I recommend an
A-188-1Y (for carplus strong and flanger/chorus stuff) and an A-188-1C
(for echo stuff).
Get some kind of fixed filter, either the A-128 Filterbank or one of the
Formant filters A-104 or A-127.
Best Regards, Florian
