When the A-106-1 was developed these type of potentiometers were not yet
available. And these center detent/center terminal potentiometers have two
disadvantages:
- they are available only without brackets (normally not a big problem)
- the center terminal is on top of the potentiometer and increases the
minimum distance to the next part by about 6 mm (this will cause a problem
if another pc board or part is closer than 6 mm
And the electronic circuit for this type of potentiometers is different from
the version without center terminal. For the normal potentiometer a
so-called bi-polar coefficient circuit (siehe Tietze/Schenk: bipolares
Koeffizientenglied) is used. This circuit cannot be used for the center
terminal poteniometers. Consequently an existing "normal" potentiometer
cannot be simply replaced by the center terminal potentiometers due to
mechanical and electronical reasons. But for future projects with polarizer
inputs we will use the new type of potentiometers.
Best wishes
