Hi dave,
In my opinion, they're both great sequencers and the A-155 finds it
way into nearly every one of my patches but they do excel in different
areas.
The A-154/155 is far more immediate and more useful for experimenting
as you can just twist the knobs until you get something you like.
The MC-4 is not as immediate in that you can't really adjust it in
real time; you actually need to program it step by step which can be a
bit difficult given that you need to know which numbers represent
which notes and punch them into the keyboard (I've yet to experiment
with the CV record function) but it does have 2 CV outs on each of the
4 channels and the ability to save sequences is an obvious benefit. On
that, you can actually use a portable MD or MP3 recorder such as a
Zoom H4/H2 or similar instead of a tape recorder to save your
sequences. The MP3/ATRAC encoding doesn't cause any issues - you just
need to get your levels right.
If you've got any other questions about the MC-4 I'm more than happy
to answer them if I can. Just shoot me an email.
Cheers,
Adam-V
