i just tried a little experiment...

i took my midi>cv box out and patched the gate to the reset on an A-145 LFO and the note cv into the A-101-9 Universal Vactrol mod which i patched to control the A-145 LFO rate...now when i hit a note, the cycle starts and i can can control the LFO rate from the keyboard...you could have a midi timing track (single notes at every measure or whatever) for triggering the LFO, and with a little messing around you can get predictable results...
