I think that people are not as excited about the A110 because there is nothing new or fancy about it!
It is true that new designs from Plan B and Livewire are more impressive, BUT the A110 serves great purpose to me for several reasons:
Small! The AFG is massive and the Model 15 eats up a fair amount of HP as well. The 110 is perfect for small systems or to have as a modulating oscillator in tandem with the Model 15.
Inexpensive. If you need several oscillators the combined small size and price makes the 110 a good choice for large systems as well.
The Octave selection is nice.
The sound of the A-110 has it's quirks. For example the "Sine" wave is more like a softly clipped square (probably a tri to sine circuit in use there).
The Fine Tune control is not so useful to me. Which makes me think that it would be a cool mod to change the "Tune" from a fine type control to a fine/ coarse control. Basically increase the percentage of offset.
Another cool mod would be to make a LFO setting on the octave switch. What a nice LFO it would make!
For bass, drums, sound effects or as modulation osc. the 110 is very useful in my opinion. It is not the most stable oscillator, and so keep that in mind when determining your system. A-111 is more stable.
