Discovering the similar problem with the 140 into the CV1 socket of the 131 when I first got my oscilloscope made me realise what an invaluable piece of kit it is (especially for the A-136 - my hat off to those who use that module without one.. but then we've had that discussion before!). It took quite a lot of experimentation with a 'slow' envelope to be able to *hear* the effect (rather than see it on the 'scope), i.e. the volume levelling off for a period and then starting to drop, rather than continually increasing in 'attack' and immediately decreasing on 'decay'. I now always use the 140 into CV2 with the pot set at about 6.

The old 130/131 used the Curtis (CEM) PA381/382 VCA chips, which were presumably specifically designed to have nice characteristics for audio. The 132 uses the RCA CA3080 chip, which is probably why it sounds different. My 131 *is* the re-designed one (marked v2, 2001), and it now also uses the 3080 chip, so I'm guessing it will sound similar to the 132. I don't know that I'm a sophisticated enough user to be able to hear the difference, but I'll have a go at the weekend!
My 130 has a PA381 chip, so I guess its an 'old' one - its marked 'v2, 1996', so I'm assuming that the new one, if/when it exists, will be 'v3'. I would be interested to hear from anyone else if they have a 'v3' 130, and whether my assumption that it must also use the 3080 chip is correct or not. (Some of this is from memory, so I'll correct on Monday if its found to be lacking...!)
I also agree with Joe, I find the 132 real nice to use for varying modulation depth, and as it is DC coupled (unlike old 130) I occasionally use it to 'multiply' CVs too...
