The reason that I think it would be nice to have a Doepfer delay is
laziness. Really! I am so damn lazy! Say that I want to send a sound from
the Doepfer into a simple delay, then back in to the Doepfer for more
processing. I don't want to have to futz with a rack delay, or perhaps plug
in a Line 6 which hasn't been used for a few days, etc. I like my Time
Machine because I get instant gratification. It doesn't pause my creative
flow.
The fallback of the Time Machine is that the longer delay "pings" are
filtered so dramatically that only shorter delays sound good. Longer delays
get 'muffled' quickly. If you listen to the Modcan samples, it seems that
they got over that problem. I might eventually have to buy a Modcan rack.
Perhaps a solution would be to hook up a normal delay to a clever patchbay,
where there are 1/4 inch inputs and outputs in the back, but 1/8 inch
inputs/outputs in the front. Has anyone used a setup like this
Unfortunately, if I went in this direction, I'd probably get that TC D-Two
delay that was mentioned earlier. It's a little expensive for what I'd use
it for ($700).
Thanks everyone!
