Here are a few S&H uses I have done before:
Use the S&H patched into the PWM input of a VCO and have it stepped by
the gate from the Keyboard/Sequencer etc. this way every note played
has a different timbre. Of course the filter can be used to.
Patch the S&H into a slew limiter (A-170) and then into the Voltage
controlled panner (A-134). Have a pretty slow clock running the S&H.
This can then be random panning or random mixing of two sounds if
using the mix output.
Doing the same but into a Morphing controller (A-144) running 4 VCAa
and you can get random Quad panning or mixing. Random Wavestation
sounds there.
The S&H patched into a slew limiter creates a great source for
"wobbly" control voltages that are great for rumbling and bubbling
noises when controlling filters. More control than just using dark
noise as a CV.
Of course feeding the S&H with a low frequency periodic waveform or
mix of a few and then patching that into a quantizer will give you a
great "Wacko Jazz" bass line or two. Keep those recorders running on
that one though - you may never be able to get that same bass line
again. Perfect for chopping up later in Abelton though.
There are a few - I'll send more if I think of them and this thread is
still going.
