Get large cases (eg LC9) and keep back at least 1k until you have spent
some time playing with it.

i`d agree with nick here on both counts - an lc9 or g9 case, while brutally
expensive, leaves you with easy growth possibilities.
the other side of the coin would be to start with a pre-configured" system
- depending on your feelings about midi, either a bs-1 or bs-2 also make a
good starting point to build on after a little hands-on experience but are
more limited in case size for immediate, easy growth.
