hi there,
i'm in the process of putting a modular system together. i'm going down the diy route where i can, so that i can spend money on the important things in life, i.e. the modules. i'm building my own rack, and also want to make the patch cables myself. i work for an electronics company, so have access to lots of cable offcuts. can someone give me some guidance on what cable to use, please . such as...
- does it have to be screened
- can i use solid core, or does it have to be stranded
- can multicore cable be used to produce mini "looms" or paired cables
- is there a maximum length (as i may want to drive the system from one of my existing synths cv outputs from the other side of the room)
- what is the thinnest and what is the thickest cable i should be using
- is it good practice to make up elaborate special cables, such as "Y" (1 in 2 out, or 1 in 3/4/5 out), or is it better to use a multiple module
any help you can give me would be appreciated.
thanks,
ian c.
