thanks for the reply. the plug had no effect. i pulled the module and noticed a couple of the jacks on the lower row appear to have been chipped/damaged. the jack on step 7 wasn't damaged, but the switch contacts looked to be a bit 'sprung'....i gave them a slight tweak with a needlenose plier to tighten the contact...all is well
