hi ethan,

if it possible, get both. please read the individual manuals for both
of these modules to get a better understanding. the A141 is useful
for realtime (velocity from midi from keyboard etc.) or voltage
controlled manipulations(from a sequencer or lfo). the A142 is useful
for fast and percussive style envelopes with only one vc parameter,
the decay. both have their prescribed uses and can be used in many
different ways.

i totally agree with Joe Buechler here, but instead of using the
A180 mult, i would replace it with the A. Solutions MX224 Mixer /
Inverter / Buffer. this a far more useful module, imho. The MX224 is
a 2 input mixer/inverter/buffer. It can mix audio, control voltages
and gates with multiple normal and inverted outputs. Ideal for
splitting signals with no signal drop. check out the url below,

a linear mixer is very useful for mixing multiple voltages to a
source. i know mixers don't produce sounds, but they serve a
specific function which is very much needed in your basic voice
setup. if you want, you could use the A135 for having voltage control
of the mixing. to give you a better idea, look at almost any Roland
analogue synth they have a mixer to mix the waveforms of the osc's
before the filter input and a mixer for the frequency of the filter.
look at an SH101 it two mixers, one for the ramp, pulse, suboctaves
and noise and one mixer for the envelope, one lfo mod and one for
keyboard tracking. and whose says you can't have one for your osc's
section. now can you imagine the SH101 without them, i say you would
have a very basic instrument with little control.

another very helpful addition to this middle function cluster would
be to add an A130 linear vca to have voltage control of any function
that has a vc input, i.e. enveloped modulations etc. while an extra
A140 certainly won't do you any harm.

the A145 and A147 are both very useful in different ways, my
suggesttion is to have both of them, that way you could cover all the
bases which one will have and the other won't.

i agree here as well, a couple of additions that would be very useful
would be the A162 dual trigger delay and the A171 vc slew or the
A129/3 vocoder slew limiter and A-129 /4 (Slew Limiter Controller),
if you need a bunch of them. i would also throw in the A151, A160/161
and A166 for more logic functions to go with with your A155.

once you have all the sources (osc's, filters and sound shaping
modules) in your system together, it's time to build up your control
voltage generators, modifiers and processors for more animated and
controlled sounds and textures.
