something like this
http://www.alpha-products.com/cd_catalog/new_catalogs/switches/std/dip/rotary/dip%20rotary%20sw2.htm
for selection would be great you both get many positions and feedback to the user.
and it´s easy to interface to a mcu
another way is to use a pot connected to an analog input on the mcu and give binary feedback with
led:s or hexadecimal feedback with a 7 segment display
my personal favorite is the one with the pot and four led:s for binary feedback
(then it´s easy to modify it for function selection via cv ;)
skip the lcd thing it´s only expensive

Subject: AW: AW: 1 A-160 Clock Divider modification for Down-counting possible

As the module is still in the design state I cannot give details. But as
it's microcontroller based it should be no problem to include different
counting/dividing types. The main problem is the operation (i.e. how to set
the dividing type and how to tell the user which type is chosen). An LCD
with menu buttons would be a bit over the top and increase the price
unnecessarily. Jumpers inside only and looking to a table would be a bit
laborious. So we will have to find a compromise between price and
operability.
Best wishes
