This sounds like a good idea to me - I have four 6U portables now. The only problem is that 2 of them are the older 85hp ones and 2 are the newer 84hp ones. I would need 2 different rings to make it work. In any case (no pun intended - really!) I find it much better to have multiple small cases instead of one big case. It is much easier to pack in a car to jam with someone, you can also take only part of your rig if only part is needed, you can re-arrange the modules in groups (my cases are in functional self contained layouts - each can stand on its own if needed), and the 6U versions can be carry-on for plane travel. Probably more expensive in the long run but much more flexible.
