Any self-resonating filter (A-105, A-106-1, etc) or oscillator sweeping down makes an excellent kick drum. Band pass filtered noise (A-106-5 for example) is good for snares, especially with a spring reverb *before* the VCA to make it sound a little more organic and varied. For hi-hats, the A-117 (which seems to represent higher frequencies better than the A-118) through a highpass or bandpass filter (eg A-106-5 or A-106-1).

So for a self resonating filter (or any other filter for that matter), I'd recommend a multimode one. If you like dirty, grungy sounds, the A-106-1 is certainly interesting, and growing on me. :)
