This wont be helpful at all but just FYI: That's a big fear I have when I upgrade! But after upgrading to Windows 7 my Midisport 8x8 is still working perfectly and I've heard it will work with Win 8 as well. Whew!!

I've been having a bad experience with MIDI recently. My old Midisport 8x8's worked fine - but a new computer and there are no drivers for them with latest Mac. So I looked around and found the NOTU Midi Express 128 - all the info says they work with latest Mac. But they don't!! Motu and Apple are supposed to be sorting it but I have no working Midi!! :-( But my good old SH101 works fine with the Doepfer A100, my trusty Korg MS20 (since I was 15, 34 years ago!!) works fine with my SQ10 and I can synch them with a Korg MonoTribe or indeed an LFO!! I guess I will return to Midi soon - as I can't leave my Waldorfs unused!
I'm loving making bizarre patches on the A100 system - and "normal" bases and sequences.

Most people simply use a MIDI-keyboard and an MIDI->CV/Gate interface.
MIDI keyboards are that dirt cheap, it doesn't make sense to buy a
dedicated CV keyboard.
