as for the topic here, yes it likely would require a custom panel, cut to host the ribbon, 84HP wouldn't be enough, though the ribbon controller is not a eurorack module

your question indeed would be a different topic, few 1U modules can be set vertically on 3U row taking 8hp

mm wide, 1HU is 44.45mm. So one would have to create a new front panel.
