From the manual:

6. Appendix

Module A-185 has two internal jumpers on its circuit board, which are factory-set to send external CV and gate signals to the system bus (see fig. 1).

By re-aligning these jumpers, you can convert the A-185 so that it doesn’t take gate and CV signals from the input sockets, but simply ‘reads’ them from the system bus, and sends them out to the front panel CV and gate output sockets. In this “read-only” mode, the input sockets are disconnected from the system bus.

What this means is if the jumpers are engaged (covering both pins) then the signals placed at the INPUT jacks will be sent to both the front panel jacks AND the bus. If they are not engaged, then the front panel input jacks are ignored and the signal that comes out of the output jack comes ONLY from the bus. For example, if you had a A-190 MIDI>CV converter connected to the bus and set with its outputs feeding the bus, the A-185-1 could be used to add two more CV and Gate outs to the A-190.


I often use the A-185-1 as a buffered y-cord, sending the CV input to two VCOS that are not bus enabled. This only happens with VCOs that cannot be easily modified to use the bus.
