very good question and one my friend became very obsessed about.
After lots of testing and reading I decided on:
Spirit Folio SX mixer
Spirit Absolute 2 monitor speakers
These give me a very clean sound, the speakers are excellent for
bassy style music like electronic/dance music (or whatever we call
it these days).
I make electronica music, bands like Autechre, Aphex Twin, Mouse on
Mars etc... The speakers are perfect for this style.
Also a very important thing I read about these speakers is they
don't make your ears tired like a lot of others do, so you can mix
all day happily.
I also have a pair of panasonic hifi speakers (normal house things)
to check the final mix on, because if you going to sell CD's people
will listen to them in their houses and cars not in studios.
JOhn.
