Hi Bakis/all,
For the SOU this sounds good.
I would like some guidance from Dieter on how the existing A100 modules
combined with the "Quantized
voltages 2 power n/n+1 states", then with the "Stored
random voltages" with adjustable voltage level
distribution. all fit together, so a good manual will be import at the
release of the module rather than a few months later.
Shame about the a107 delay, but excellent the Doepfer take the UAT
seriously and want to get the final product right, instead of releasing
a sub-standard module.

Subject: 1 new info on the SOU modules and A107
from doepfer!!!
DIETER DOEPFER SAIS:(ABOUT THE SOU MODULES):
" At first we will probably begin with the "Quantized
voltages 2 power n/n+1 states", then with the "Stored
random voltages" with adjustable voltage level
distribution. These functions cannot be realized with
A-100 modules so far. For the remaining functions of
the SOU we are not sure if we will develop new modules
as these functions can be realized with existing A-100
modules. E.g. the integrator is nothing but an A-171,
the toggling S&H can be realized with A-148, A-160 and
A-165. The A-118 is a noise source with adjustable
blue/red contents at the colored output compared to
the Buchla noise source with 3 fixed filters (for the
Buchla 265 an analog source like the A-118, for the
Buchla 266 the same digital noise circuit as in the
A-117 is used). The realization of the fluctuating
random CV's is a bit more complicated but can be
realized with an A-145 (triangle at 100Hz) that is
mixed with the random output of the A-118 in a mixer,
a VCLFO A-147, a S&H A-148 and the VC Slew Limiter
A-171. We will decide later if new SOU modules will be
developed that contain a set of internally patched
functions like the toggling S&H or the fluctuating
random CV's. I'm not sure if it is worth the efforts
to combine existing modules in a new combination. But
if the customers really want such modules we will
offer them.
And to speak the truth - it seems that many customers
ask for a replica of the SOU without knowing the
functions of the SOU. Only the "quantized voltages"
and the "stored random voltage" section is something
you cannot create with the existing A-100 modules.
There is another new information: After some A-100
users in the Munic area have tested the first and
second prototype (including add. CV inputs and step
reset function) of the A-107 we will have to redesign
the module again. The reason is that for long morphing
times the morphing steps between different filter
types are lightly audible. So far the morphing is made
by the microcontroller and four 8 bit digital-analog
converters generate the control voltages for the four
VCAs of the morphing stages. Obviously the 8 bit
resolution is not smooth enough so that we will have
to modify the module again and introduce four (analog)
voltage controlled slew limiters between the DACs and
VCAs to obtain a 100% smooth transition between
different filters even for very long morphing times (~
10 seconds or more, up to some minutes). For short
morphing times (max. a few seconds) the 8 bit
resolution does not matter but for long morphing times
one could hear lightly the steps from one filter to
another due to the 8 bit resolution. So the delivery
date for the A-107 has to be postponed for about one
month. Sorry - but quality is more important than
keeping the expected delivery date.
Best wishes
Dieter Doepfer"
