Hi list,
Having despaired last night at not being able to clock my A-
117 digital noise module with my A-111, this morning I took penknife
and soldering iron to it. I have 'reconfigured' it, moving one of the
Schmitt triggers from being after the internal clock but before the
input, to _after_ the input. It now 'squares up' the incoming clock
signal immediately before passing it to the shift register generating
the noise. The upshot of this is is now I can clock it with just
about any oscillator: whatever it was about my A-111 output it didn't
like before (even the square wave output), it will now happily run
from any of the outputs; previously if I tried it with an A-110 it
would invariably settle into a weird, (non-noisy) steady oscillation
state - now it runs noise-like as I want it to. In fact it will run
from any attenuated sine wave as long as it is greater than about +/-
1V in amplitude.
The modification requires cutting 4 tracks and adding 4 straps (and
is moderately fiddly). If anyone else has been experiencing this
frustration, and wants to know the details, let me know and I shall
write some instructions and post them (and if I can persuade my mate
with the digital camera to visit and take a few snaps of it, post a
few pictures too).
Cheers,
Tim
