ideally, all the channels would run into the computer so i could insert dsp
treatments into the signal path. but it would mean all the channels would be
ad/da converted all the time. it would also be expensive (3 motu 896 units )
my computer is a powerbook g4 with max/msp software. in max/msp one can
route inputs and outputs in any possible way with a virtual matrix, save
presets, control everything with midi etc. and you could add digital
treatments at any stage of the signal path. the connection to an interface
would have to be via firewire or pcmcia card.
this akai dp3200 you mention, are they still being produced so this just
routes inputs to outputs right, it doesn't run the signal into a computer
(and doesn't convert a>d either)
i'm kind of not sure whether a midi controlled signal matrix or mixing and
routing everything through the powerbook would be best at the moment
