hello psm,
maybe i'm wrong but i think that the microprocessor is used
to connect the feedback inputs with the outputs.
advantages would be that you can patch these things
without cables, you can save and reload the settings,
you maybe have a smaller frontpanel.
disadvantages would be that you cannot do external patchings
with the feedback points, higher price, longer development time.
in my eyes the external patching facilities are unbeatable.
everybody who makes strange patches with the vocoder modules
will feel the same, i'm sure.
