1) I would love to see a dedicated "voice module", something like a
Oberheim SEM module. It could even be made of current modules just
packaged into a single smaller panel. It would have a similar feature
set as a SEM, 2 VCOs (switchable or mixable at the filter wave-shapes),
a simple LFO (maybe with switchable wave-shapes - VC not even needed),
2 Envelope generators (ADSRs not ASRs like the SEM unless the size
restricts it to ASR), a Multimode filter, and a VCA (or a stereo
panner/VCA) all with simple inputs and outputs normalized to a standard
mono voice patch. The minimum patching needed would be a single CV and
Gate, but the normalization could be broken to make available separate
CVs for the VCOs and VCF, and gates for the different EGs. The main
thing is to make the feature set is flexible with a emphasis on small
size. There are many times where a "standard" voice architecture is
useful and the ease of patching would be great. The development time
would be minimal since the modules used have all been developed
already. It is just a packaging exercise.
2) A manual switch/Gate module. Input jacks normalized to +5V and -5V
(built in power converter) connected to decent momentary and latching
switches. These could be mixed or dedicated types. In other words, a
quad latched, quad momentary, and one with 2 of each type. The latching
type could have status LEDs or be illuminated. I had to make one of
these to use with my Joystick controller. In mine each button had two
outs inverted from each other (SPDT action).
3) A gate pattern generator. It would be a sequencer module with no
pots, just switches. Rhythms could be programmed and it would be much
cheaper than a sequencer. Clock in, reset, gate width CV in, and Gate
out. Sixteen steps (i.e. 16th notes) would be great. a Carry/borrow
function would be good for cascading them to larger numbers.
4) This is really not a module, but it would be GREAT if we could buy
jacks and Knobs from Doepfer. Custom home built panels would look much
better with matching jacks and knobs. The minimum quantity could be
high to justify the hassle.
