I use mine for audio all the time too.
 They're just a different response curve, that's all. Exp. is considered
 more suitable for audio, as loudness is perceived on an exponential, not
 linear scale (probably something to do with loads of physics to do with air
 pressure, or the construction of your ear or something)
 But a linear vca used for audio will just seem to get louder along a
 slightly different curve.
