hello anders,
the a117 digital noise module only outputs gate signals
with the same level, so it is mainly for triggering
other modules or for use as a noise source.
the a118 gives smooth random voltages, but you can't control
the randomness via cv. this is a good application for
the a149-1, where randomness and the appearance of random
events can be controlled with voltages and gates, but the
voltage changes are not smooth, so you should add a
slew limiter here. a vc slew limiter gives even more
control over the smoothness of the random events.
from my point of view the combination of a149-1 and
a171 is best, because it gives the most control.
the a118 is an alternative, if you want to save money and
rack space.
