If it is a question of sales, I'm sure Doepfer can sell a ton of
complex VCOs even though Buchla's are available. If it is a question
of stepping on toes, Doepfer could make 4 modules:
the modulation VCO - the new high quality discrete VC LFO
the primary VCO - the new high quality discrete VCO
the modulation index module
the wave shaper
These modules do not have to look anything like the original 259.
Also, the new 259e is a hybrid analog/digital module with firmware,
patch memory, and a MIDI input bus.
If doepfer were to build an analog only module using the OLD 259
desing as his basis there would be no infringing.
At the very least, I'm sure Dieter could license the old 259 design.
People will snap those modules up quickity snap!
I will buy some Buchla modules and continue to buy Doepfer modules.
