Hi,
Any new VCO would probably only go into my next system which might only come
about in the distant future (:O) , but I am also disappointed about Dieter's
(potential) decision and hope to add my voice to the chorus urging him
against this. As far as scruples or ethics go, I think Brandon hit the nail
on the head:
>Anyone who can afford 200e modules will buy the real buchla over the
>doepfer-buchla, and anyone who can't afford the 200e modules is not a
>potential buchla customer.
However, I have never seen or heard a Buchla anything (much less had my
hands on one) and the few recordings I have been pointed to certainly didn't
make me think 'hmmm I have to have one of those' in the way that some moog
modular recordings have done. What I would like more than a Buchla clone is
Dieter's take on an uber-VCO like the Buchla, but with its own unique
spicing, kind of like his interpretation of an ms20 filter (which, even on
the few samples I have heard, knocks the original into a cocked hat, IMHO).
I would therefore argue against a slavish copy (and the necessity of getting
the exact specs) and rather in favour of a module that would enable us to
explore similar sonic territories but in its own way. I would like to see
Dieter add to the legacy rather than simply perpetuating it. The past is
passed.
just my $0.02
Pierre
