I've got all of the Concussor percussion modules and a Vermona DRM1,
the Concussor modules are exact clones of 808, 909 and CR-78
circuitry, even down to using correct japanese transistors, but they
have a few extra mods and controls to increase the tonal ranges.
There are two things to bear in mind though, the trigger pulse
length can alter the sounds a bit, use 1ms pulse and they will sound
very near to Roland. Other thing is they run from +/- 12v supply
rather than +/-15v that the 808 and 909 used, this has a slight
bearing on the sound too, makes them seem a little bit softer to me.
The DRM1 can make some noises that the AS modules can't and they do
complement each other quite well.
I sequence these modules from my Schaltwerk sequencer, but the
Schaltwerk needs some trigger outputs adding to work with them, the
gate outs don't trigger successfully. My Schaltwerk trigger mod pcb
and circuit is in the files area of Schaltwerk yahoogroup, this
gives the correct 1ms long pulses that these modules work best with.
cheers,
Allan
