I know that you and others have posted info on certain polls in the past, and very good info it has been.

I sometimes forget that all list members are not experienced users.

If the less experienced users are not responding because they lack information and understanding, I feel that when they do ask for explanations the responses given are very good.

The problem is that questions probably are not being asked.

Glad to add some input as follows:

Sine Wave Oscillator bank for additive synthesis:
It is possible to de-construct the waveform of any sound in to a series of sine waves (this is called fourier analysis) each sine wave would be a certain frequency and amplitude. When all of these sine wave are played back at the correct time the original sound is heard.
The problem is that in order for additive synthesis to be very accurate you need at least 64 sine wave oscillators, Kawai K5000 uses 128. Now it is impractical to buy 64 A110's or even 32 or 16 A110's for a less accurate sound of a real instrument (16 is perfectly adequate for new sounds though). So the idea would be for a oscillator bank that can produce a number of sine waves, with pitch and amplitude control (a CV in for each would also be nice for adding FM, Frequency modulation) would work out cheaper.

Granular Synthesis
Granular synthesis is when an existing sample or sound is broken up into time slices called granules. These can then be displaced and reordered based on a number of parameters. Example parameters would include grain size, amount of randomising of grain playback, speed of playback ideally all parameters having CV control. The only problem with such a module is that granular synthesis is based on quite complex mathematics and to do real-time processing requires a digital processor and code. This means A-D & D-A convertors hence expensive.However if you have ever played with U&I's Metasynth or some other software that does granular the effect is stunning.

o.k.,david i agree....please submit any info you can
think of for any poll,and i'll submit my
explanations,too.....but i don't think that i have
anything new to add...i will only try to find the
messages in which some of the modules of the polls are
explained....for example i have already sent info
about the vactrol phaser/filter ,in fact,direct from
dieter himself....also,the ems filter is described in
the doepfer site.also,i have already sent a message
with a link to the buchla chaos generator.,and,as for
the granular proccessor,i will try to find some info
to add,o.k. if you already know some things,please
help!!the thing that i know for a fact is that in
granular synthesis a sample is divided in many,many
short pieces,that can be played back in random
order,or something like that...this thing you can
already do with the a112 wavetable osc.,though...but
in granular synthesis you can do some other
things,too...i'll try to find some info to post to the
list...
