This is normal for all multidirectional input gear; e.g. non centering joy
sticks.

problems with CAD PA-RISC workstations with spaceball mouses coming across
my desk:

I don't know which spacemouse Doepfer is using, but there are assumingly
only one or two producers. HP uses the following third party product:
