hello soggy,
many thanks for your report about buchla's reply, but,
i would like to make some comments:
if dieter decides to build an advanced 259 based a100
vco, he will first get a reply from don.
if dieter doesn't get a reply, still, nothing stops
dieter from building a new advanced a100 triangle core
vco module with discrete circuitry. and it will not be
a buchla module copy, of course.
also what do you mean by "smaller" manufacturer
smaller in terms of what exactly in the case of
doepfer and buchla modulars, someone could say that
buchla is the smaller manufacturer in terms of sales.
in terms of advanced modules i don't think that
buchla modular has more advanced modules than the
a100. buchla has more expensive modules, for sure, and
modules with digital circuitry which can recall
settings, yes, but Not more advanced modules in terms
of sound generating capabilities than the a100. so, i
think it would be better if you had replaced the word
"smaller" with the word "other". :-)
the a149-1, 2 S.O.U. modules were build because, at
the time than doepfer decided to build them, don
didn't manufactured them anymore.
so, now that new buchla modules appear in the market,
i assume that, probably, there will not be developed
anymore NEW buchla style Advanced a100 modules, as far
as i know. Only If don gives his permition, maybe,
more buchla based a100 modules will be developed, but,
again, these new modules will be advanced, with
expanded features! these will not be buchla modules
clones.
anyway, thank you again for your buchla event report.
btw, did you hear the new 200e modular any opinion
bakis.
