Hi,
>It is a marvel of modern science
Agreed - I love it: it's probably my overall favourite module (at the moment
:)). It can produce a wide range of interesting and useful sounds. As ever
with synthesised tones these are difficult to describe, but it is generating
sidebands so the sounds can have the bold and forward qualities you usually
get from fm or oscillator sync, but seem more stable somehow (perhaps the
increased range of parameters on offer make it easier to shape the sound and
thus reduce the artifacts usually associated with those two forms of
modulation). It's also a capable distortion unit and can add quite a bit of
weight and presence to a sound. All the controls really add something -
quite often with modules of this sort there is one control whose effect on
the final sound seems to be somewhat negligible unless all the other knobs
are in sympathetic alignment, but that's not the case here.
I think the reason for the lack of discussion is because when you get one of
these your need for it becomes immediately evident and there is no need to
discuss it further. If you're at all interested in transforming sounds you
can't go wrong this module (and it words very well with its immediate
predecessor, the a136, too).
