I made a dual matrix for myself last winter (for Modulars) (if you
need pictures, tell me). The problem of matrices for modulars is,
that they have too less in and outputs. Giant matrices are extremely
expensive and one is not really fast in finding the right hole on a
big one. I connected two matrices together, so I had 22 outputs and
44 inputs. I had to do some compromise on the output-side....
but I understand, that the doepfer-matrix is much smaller. This is
good in a modular setup, because then you have a chance to remember
where the modulations are going without having to check every patch
cable. For me, a Matrix is really making sense in a halfmodular or a
non-modular synth because, then, every in and output on the matrix
AND on the "modules" are signed.
best wishes
