I think the Peter B. machines are far stranger than most modulars on the
market. I saw Mr. B. perform in DC and was blown away with the bizarre
sounds he was getting. These are not well-heeled machines, but
somewhere between cicuit bent creations and synths (Peter B., by the
way, does not like being compared to a circuit-bender.) His machines
typically have several pins or nodes that can be connected in any number
of ways with alligator clips. He played it by casting silveware across
the nodes.
In any case, these things look very cool, but keep in mind that my
experience is limited because I have never actually played one of his
instruments.
