Here is an idea. Why not add a multi-pin header to the current mixers
that would allow their inputs to be chained to each other. This way you
could chain as many mixers together as you want to make a 4 by x matrix
mixer (it could even jumper to adjacent rows to make an 8 by x matrix).
I would guess this could be done now by wiring cables between the input
jacks of the current models. A better idea - I have always hoped that
Doepfer would allow access to the normalizing contacts on all the jacks
used in the modules (at least the ones the can be used) like the old
E-mu modular. Currantly most of them are shorted to the main input
pins. This way you could chain the mixers inputs to each other through
the normalized part of the jacks and by jacking into a mixer in the
middle of a matrix, it would function normally. All it needs to be is a
unused pad or donut - no pins or connectors.
