The central pin of the jumper is the bus board connection: with the
jumper in the factory setting ('write' mode), the output of the
buffer is connected to the bus board; with the jumper in the other
position ('read' mode), the bus board is connected to the input of
the buffer. So removing the jumper completely means the bus board is
just not connected at all, and so the module then acts as a
standalone buffer module.
