This had an electronic switch that was triggered by the rising edge of the
gate signal. This switch was used to increase the filter frequency of the
PLL low pass for a few milliseconds immediately after each gate transistion.
Consequently the PLL frequency follows very fast for a few milliseconds the
input frequency. After that the low pass returns to its normal lower
frequency (~ 10 Hz or so). This feature is not included in the A-196 but
could be added with an external filter (the A-171 in this case as a DC
coupled filter is required).
