I have owned (and loved) Doepfer equipment for 4 years now, and have
personally only had 2 jacks malfunction on me, to the point of having
to pull out the module and push in the metal contacts to tighten the
connection. Having said this, most of them DO wobble a lot when the
plug is in, and the contact can become loose and intermittent if the
cord is moved (sometimes by the lightest touch). This can be very
frustrating, and I consider it the BIGGEST flaw of the Doepfer. This
problem notwithstanding, the Doepfer is a superb instrument: stable,
bright oscillators, snappy EG's, great filters....I think Dieter et
al should concentrate more on improving their current line of modules
than on coming up with more (gimmicky) modules (with the exception of
the much anticipated, already legendary touch keyboard controller, of
course!). May be a rev. 1.2 version of the modules. One suggested
alternative is to change the jacks to banana ones. I have a
moderately large system with bananas: 3 vco's, 2 mixers, 3 eg's, 1
phaser, 1 ringmod, 1 noise, 1 audio divider, 2 vca's. Works
perfectly, and looks way cool. Something for DIY'ers to consider.
