If you want an alternative to the "high-priced" G6s I think that you might
consider DIY.
It' not that difficult to build a custom frame for Doepfer modules.
If you are in Europe you might consider RS Components (I think they are
located in UK but sell worldwide)

I used:
Part 437-2551 for the frame. A 6 Units Frame (it's a Schroff) It's about 80
euros (60 UKP) , doesn't have top/Bottom and rear covers, but there is
another option on their site (costs more, though) . Doepfer screws won't fit
on this rails, but 300 2,5mm screws costed me 5 euros.
Part 434-201 to make the bus. About 20 Euros (15 UKP) A single strip is
large enough to be cut in two or three lines (or four, like I did) to make a
custom bus
Connectors for the bus are really cheap, you can buy different kinds of
them.only a few euros
The most expensive part is the PSU.I used Computer PSU at the moment. I know
they are not the best, but as a temporary solution they work very well. also
used a 7805 regulator to get the +5V.
Connecting and Soldering the PSU is quite simple, you don't need to be an
electronic engineer, just need to know the difference between +12, -12 and
+5Volts.However, if you are not experienced at all ask a friend to do it
for you. This is the most delicate part, if you do something wrong you are
probably gonna burn some precious modules.(see my A-190---grr...;-))
With just about 100 euros you can build an alternate G6 frame. Dieter is
kind enough to post plenty of information on his site about voltages,
connections and so on.
I Had a G6, sold it and with the same money bought about 3 frames (2 and a
half, to be honest)
