Great suggestions from several people. Thank you!
My main goal is to condense down my initial purchase to as small as
possible and still be usable in a 'fun' getting started sense. Getting
below $1,000 (US) would be fantastic, though I don't think I'm going to
get there.
Any suggestions on what I can drop from the following list would be great.
I'm sure that within a couple months I'll want to add a couple more
modules and continue every month or three until the case is filled. I'm
willing to wait and do without a certain module in order to have the
"right" modules when the entire thing is filled. The bite sized approach
also allows me to get to know it better piece by piece - and know what
best to purchase next.

Yes - at least initially - I'll be using the system as an effects loop
mostly - processing my synths (dss1, juno106, prophet600) and other stuff
(bass guitar, trumpet, drums, whatever...). I'll definitely want a vco
and midi/cv in there before I'm done, though.
