I experience the same problem all the time - The typical VCO to
Filter/VCA and Keyboard to Envelope to VCA are almost a permanent
link. Pesonally though, I wouldn't make any permanent links through
the front jacks (though by its very nature, a jack link can't be a
permanent link anyway, unless you glue the plugs in ! ), but I've
seriously considered hard-wiring links directly from the PCB to,
perhaps, a panel with switches that would link them to the other
modules, thus saving adding to the tangles of patch cords, saving
them, and the sockets for the more exotic and unusual patches.
Perhaps a large module-front, positioned in the centre of the
cabinet, with a printed schematic of the links, and some big push
buttons, or toggle switches for instant patching of the mundane "Mini-
Moog" patches
