One can only report one's own subjective opinion. My modular has around
30 An.Sol modules and around 15 Doepfer........ I'd bought the An.Sol
stuff first...... then I discovered Doepfer..... but we can't turn the
clock back can we.
The Doepfer pots seem of much higher quality than An.Sol's - being
silky-smooth, as opposed to their counterparts, many of which seem very
loose.....
I have had an intermittent problem with one of the An.Sol sequencer
modules, for some time, and sent it back for repair. It was returned
with the report - "No fault found." The fault is still there though.
One of the percussion modules has gone totally dead. I sent an Email to
arrange for its return..... the Email wasn't answered and the module
remains dud. I'm afraid I also found the responses less than helpful
when phoning for advice....... The person I spoke to seemed irritated
and impatient, with the attitude - "Well, if you don't know about these
things, then you shouldn't be messing with them", an attitude which is
also reflected in the printed instructions. I bought my Doepfer modules
from EMIS, and they couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful.
Then there were problems with a couple of the An.Sol VCOs - drifting
out of tune regarding the octave interval. There's no tuning control
pot for this on the module's front, which necessitates removing it from
the cabinet and tuning via a tiny pre-set on the board.
I hope the above is helpful.
